Americans Love to Work Longer?... Depends.

In class one day, we went over how Americans are happy if they work longer and in Europeans are happy when they hardly work and I thought to myself "I better move to Europe!" I think that it just depends on the person, I personally would not like to work longer hours if I am getting paid minimum wage. Working at minimum wage is so tough! This is why I am in college to get a great career that I love and get paid a lot. Now if I had my ideal career, I would not mind working long hours because I love doing my job and I would get paid more to accomplish the "American Dream", and of course when I get my vacation time, I will certainly enjoy spending time on an island just relaxing and having nothing to worry about.

  1. I agree that it depends on the person, but by saying "This is why I am in college to get a great career that I love and get paid a lot." you're agreeing with the whole topic. College is working too. Is working to get somewhere, to get something. You are doing the american thing. A European would, according to what we talk in class, study something because he/she likes it. Is a vocational thing.

  2. You have a good point Ben about working more hours in a job you love. Then it doesn't seem like work. I have to agree with you. I found the right career and feel at peace with time I spend working. When I have the time off in the summer, it is a good way to unplug, unwind and relax.Good to be able to balance work and life, even in a career you love.
