Gotta Have 150 Friends?
In Robin Dunbar's essay, Gotta Have 150 Friends, he states that people can only "maintain" 150 friends on Facebook. To "maintain" 150 friends on Facebook means that the person has to know those 150 friends really well. But I even think that that 150 Friends is way too high! For someone to actually know everything about 150 people is impossible, unless they have no lives and that's all they do all day. People need to distinguish the difference between real close friendships and acquaintances. Recently I got an event request on Facebook from an acquaintance and she lost all her phone contacts and sent that event to over 1000 friends!!! I was like "There is no way in h*** that she can keep up with over 1000 friends!!!" I decided not to give her my number because we don't really talk. :)

Right, I agree with you. Being able to maintain a friendship might just mean saying hi, and wishing a happy birthday. But really being a friend takes a lot of work, time and effort. There's no way I can put that kinda time in for 150 friends! I like that other number, 5, that he talks about for the # of people we do most of our interactions with. That's more realistic, as far as close friends go!

I agree 150 friends is hard to maintain because you only can spend a certain amount of people at the same time. Getting to know each one of them is hard enough some maybe hard to be close too. The picture is too funny.
